If you know me (and I hope that you do, at least a little bit, by now), you’ll know that I love Korean beauty products. Particularly, of late I’ve been loving a number of bits n’ pieces from Wishtrend, the online mecca of K-beauty. And with Black Friday coming up quick smart, I wanted to unleash my 3 fave products that I ~highly recommend~ you restock up on during this crazy sales period. Because #sales!
The first is my love, the one, the only… Klairs Midday Blue UV Shield. Ah, the memories. I first started using this back during our first lockdown here in Victoria, and the scent even reminds me of that time. I know, nostalgic already. What can I say, I’m a bit of an emotional ham. Plus, 2020 has been a year, so if I feel like getting misty-eyed about an SPF, who’s to judge?!
But back to my train of thought. This product was a real revelation to me, namely because I’ve found it notoriously difficult to find a zinc-based sunscreen that a) doesn’t completely wash me out/whiteface me even more, and b) actually works. It’s a fine line. I’ve dabbled with chemical sunscreens, of course, and did have a rather long love affair with the La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Light Fluid, and I love the glow it left on my skin.
But after years of experimenting, I just find that I can never quite rely on chemical sunscreens to completely do the job (for my fair, fair skin, at least), and to also not completely irritate my eyes to bloodshot levels never seen before. So, I try and stick to the zinc. And this one is such a winner!
As I wrote in my previous rave review post, it’s a smooth, simple, sleek sunscreen that just does what it says. Yes, it is light blue (a beautiful, cornflower shade on the packaging, and a very fair version of the shade in the actual cream), and it may leave the slightest of white tinges on the skin—as all zinc creams unfortunately do—but it’s so much smoother and natural-looking.
I think I discussed in that post that I wouldn’t necessarily use this for an Australian summer day at the beach, as I just don’t know if any sunscreen is cut out for that except the intense Banana Boat and Cancer Council ones, that are a thick paste designed to block the harsh southern hemisphere UV rays as best they can. It’s just another level of UV that I don’t even think the Korean sunscreens are prepared for!
So, if you’re after a great daily sunscreen to use on the fly, that smells great, looks great and keeps you protected (within reason), I urge you to try this one. The next product to restock up on during the Black Friday sales is the I’m From Honey Glow Cream. I mentioned this here, and have been quietly loving and using this bad boy up daily. It’s a thick, luscious cream, and it really feels expensive, you know? Except during this Black Friday season, it’s all yours for just $19.20 (instead of $32 — that’s 40% off, boo).
This face cream is a lovely, rich and nourishing cream that is perfect for layering in the evening especially, and would suit most skin types looking for a quenching product. It is a little richer, as I said, so perhaps exercise caution on oily skin, but you know it’s all about layers—especially if you live in a dry climate, a la moi.
I’ve always had a thing for honey/royal jelly/propolis-based products, and this one is no exception. Honey just has such a nourishing but also anti-bacterial effect on the skin, and my skin drinks it up. If you’re interested in trying this bougie-looking product, now is your time to pounce!
And lastly, is my beloved Rovectin Cica Care Balm. Ah, the joy I feel with this baby. It’s a simple product, to be sure, and one that perhaps belies its abilities. After I waxed lyrical about it here, I got into the habit of using it daily, and found it to be so calming and soothing. My skin has been having periods of sensitivity and dryness, and this cream seems to really help to just cool it down and heal it (to an extent).
Of course, I’ve already raved about it in depth in my previous post, but it’s a lovely, light but nourishing cream, that comes in a convenient tube which is easy to bring with you everywhere. Doesn’t get much better than that!
