I have often raved about L’Occitane on this blog. Here, for example, or perhaps here. You’d be hard pressed to find me talking about hand creams/scrubs without mentioning them… they are just a classic brand that, funnily enough, I fell more in love with after living in Korea (they’re huge there — almost as big as in Japan).

And so, I feel it is my civic duty to talk about a product I have been loving for years… but, scandalously, am yet to dedicate an entire post to: the L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil.

Praise be!

First off, this oil has the scent of an almond croissant. It’s truly heavenly. I’ve read in an interview that the founder of L’Occitane rates this product as his favourite… out of all L’Occitane products. And that is saying a lot! But also, doesn’t surprise me in the least.

This dreamy oil contains sweet almond oil, giving it its fragrance and skin-smoothing super powers! It’s a bit of a revelation using oils in baths, instead of bubbles or soaps — so much gentler on the skin, and it feels très luxurious as well.

As you can see, we were running low whilst I took these pictures — this oil is a hot commodity round these parts! However, we’ve since purchased a refill, so I can finally feel at peace again. Panic over.

I also love the golden hue of this oil, it’s rich, luxe, and just makes me feel expensive. Which is always a good thing!

If you’ve experienced any dry skin conditions, including eczema, I have found this personally to be useful in helping to manage them. I’ve recommended it to a few people and they’ve also experienced relief with it. Of course, it’s not a cure per se, but the gentle nature of this oil really can help moisturise the skin deeply, and without irritation.

As for its application, it has a lovely, slightly heavy feeling upon application (in a good way — it feels nourishing and spa-like), and this lightens up once mixed with water. Here it is au naturale:

Ah, the gloss! The shine! I can basically see my own reflection right there.

And below, you’ll see that the oil also emulsifies when combined with water, which makes it perfect to use in the shower as well.

I think it was in Korea when I first used a shower oil (I believe it was a Nature Republic one — probably their Chamomile Cleansing Oil), and I’d never felt anything like it. The concept of nourishing instead of stripping your skin? Ingenious!

And this one follows suit, also making it more convenient in a way, as it’s a thicker, more viscous product to use (and easier to control) in those precious shower minutes.

We have graduated from buying the standard bottle to the jumbo pump bottle, and have picked up numerous refill packs. That’s actually one of the great perks of this product — they sell the oil in separate refill packs, so you can reuse the bottle. Environmentally friendly and fantastic! We love to see it.

All in all, this product is a holy grail in our household, and for good reason. There’s just nothing like it. If you’re in the market for a luxury bath oil, or just want to see how it feels to be doused in almond croissant goodness (or is that just me?), then I highly recommend picking this baby up. It’s a gamechanger, and you only live once, you know?

Have you tried this cult favourite? Let me know your thoughts!
