Steph here, hope you’re well!
So this is a something a little different for me, and a bit confronting, but its something that was really important for me so here we go…
I used to have TERRIBLE skin.
Since a teenager I’ve always had problem skin and as I went into my twenties it got even worse.
I don’t remember exactly when it started, but at some points it was so bad I felt really ashamed.
It’s not fun for me to remember, but here’s what it used to look like:
I remember being so stressed out about it all the time, caking on concealer hoping to cover up spots and generally feeling that I looked terrible.
I took my skin so seriously, that I went and saw a dermatologist who charged me many hundred dollars an hour.I remember going there with my boyfriend, hoping that I was going to get a solution… Instead, she told me, “some people just have bad skin.”She went on to recommend me some harsh skin treatments, that would stop me from drinking alcohol, make me sensitive to light, and dry my skin out.
I was not interested in these harsh, un-natural solutions.
I was devastated… and for a while went into a bit of a depression.
I know there are people out there with much bigger problems, but emotionally I felt as though I was cursed and every time I looked in the mirror I was reminded of my bad skin.
But I’m not the kind of girl to give up hope…
Don’t let my girly-ness fool you, I’m a bit of a rebel.
I am strong believer that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
And perhaps more importantly, I believe that your body WANTS to be healthy.
Your SKIN wants to be healthy, and that bad skin is not something that just happens.
Everything has a cause, and if you can find that cause and eliminate it, you can fix the problem.
And so… I turned my depression into determination.
I began researching everything about acne, and its causes…
And I started experimenting on myself…
From Witch-hazel extracts to 3 times a day washing my face, I tried a whole lot of stuff. Products after products from all over the world, including Korea where I was teaching English during part of this time.
I also monitored how my skin reacted to different nutritional patterns and supplements.
Some of it worked a bit, and some of it worked a LOT.
Eventually, I began to notice patterns, and began to develop my own skin care routine and habits.
Fast forward to today, and with the right mix of internal skin care and external skin care my skin now looks like this:
Needless to say I was ecstatic, and a big part of the reason Misc. Bliss focuses so much on skin care and my experiences with it.
Now I get comments on how nice my skin looks, and I feel so comfortable I have been known to go out without any make up on, GASP!
In all seriousness, it made a huge impact on not just my appearance but my self esteem and therefore my life.
One night I was talking about this when my boyfriend, when he suggested I should write a book about it!
I hadn’t really thought about it, but thinking about all the hundreds of dollars I spent seeing skin care specialists, and the amount of time and money I went through looking for solutions, I felt as though I could really use that information to help other people, without them having to spend the time and money that I did.
And so, I present the first eBook on Misc. Bliss:
