It’s easy to lose track of things in this day and age. In these unprecedented times, no less! But sometimes it does lead to my befuddlement, when I swear I’ve written about a product I love… but it turns out I haven’t. What’s the deal?!
Regardless, 2020 is the year for soldiering on, which is exactly what I’m gonna do today. And I’ll be valiantly doing so on behalf of the Klairs Fundamental Water Gel Cream, a face cream I have loved for a long while now, but has warranted nary a mention on here. Good heavens, no!
If you have sensitive skin like mine, you’ll know that trying new face products — especially creams, for me — can go very wrong, very quickly. The whole thing can just implode faster than you can say rosacea. Which is why, when I find a product I actually like that doesn’t irritate me (or my skin, lol), I like to stick with it. And this is what this water gel cream right here does.
Now, if you remember a looooong time ago, back in the glory days of 2014 (because I was in Korea and just discovering K-beauty and oh, it was magical), I wrote my first Korean product review about the Nature Republic Super Aqua Max Combination Watery Cream. Would you believe me if I said I didn’t need to Google the full name right then? Hopefully you know me well enough by now to know that it’s true (even if one word was mixed up and another word was missing). I used to stan hard for this cream, and probably still would if I got my paws on it. I suppose, as time went on, I got razzle-dazzled by newer releases, or stuck in my ways perhaps, and it just went by the wayside. But perhaps I’ll do a reorder soon!
Back to the product at hand — when I first heard the title, of course it rung bells, the sound of a familiar refrain, and I just had to see what it was all about. There is something about the light texture of a gel cream that just gets me. To me, skincare is all about layers (especially in the Korean skincare routine), and putting really heavy, occlusive layers on my skin just doesn’t really work for me. Perhaps as a final step, but even then I have to be careful. Instead, lots of light layers is where it’s at.
And this product is perfect for that.
You may be able to see the texture: it’s a very lightweight, gel cream (as the name suggests), almost like a very thick essence really. It’s easy to scoop up on the spatula provided, and applies seamlessly to the skin. In terms of ingredients, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Water (aka green tea leaf water) is the first listed ingredient, which contains anti-ageing, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Yes please!
It also contains rice extract, which I remember from the Skinfood Rice Mask Wash Off is a wonderful brightening ingredient, as well as rosemary leaf extract for calming and soothing the skin. So many winners. There are of course many other ingredients listed, but a number are plant extracts, and hyaluronic acid is tucked there as well. This explains why my sensitive skin loves it so much!
Just to quickly touch on the packaging, I love the simplicity of the jar — it’s very minimalist chic and is a pleasure to use. I also love that the spatula is included, as this will help my little paws from spreading bacteria.
I still can’t believe I’ve never mentioned this product before, but here we are. If you, like me, have a tricky complexion which doesn’t take kindly to newcomers in the beauty sphere, but you want to try something new at the same time… I would kindly suggest giving this a go. If you haven’t guessed, I love this cream!
And best of all? You get a coupon code! Everyone gets a coupon code! If you’re keen to try this little guy, use the code NOV10 for 10% off for the month of November. Wishtrend are fast and reliable with their shipping as well, so you’ll get it in your little paws quickly!
Speaking of paws…
Have you tried this gel cream? Or any others like it? I’m always interested in new recommendations, so let me know!
