I’ll be honest: my skin has been having a tough time of late. I know, I know, I write about skincare and healed my skin etc. etc… but sometimes it just plays up, you know?
It certainly doesn’t help that I’ve been downing Coco Pops like it’s nobody’s business (chalking that one up to quarantine…), but the truth is that my skin has been congested and it ain’t cute.
So in my time of need, I decided to turn to the Cica line of Rovectin products that Wishtrend kindly sent me. I had tucked these away for emergencies — and oh lawd, did we have one.
Enter this Cica Balm, and literally the next day, we were back on track. It wasn’t perfect, but it was getting there — much faster than anything else had. I recently reviewed the Rovectin brand (well, my first introduction to it, at least), and I have so far really enjoyed their products. I also love that it’s a vegan line! So much yes. Big cat lover — and animal lover — over here, so that really means a lot to me.
Now, the packaging. I like the Rovectin aesthetic in general: minimalist & modern. Just what I need more of in my life, honestly! The Rovectin Cica Balm comes in a neat plastic tube, that can be easily squeezed. See here for proof:
So neat and light!
It would be perfect for travel (if we could do that kind of thing…), but it’s also really convenient if you wanted it on the go, or even just as a lightweight product in your bathroom.
Glass is nice and all, but sometimes a plastic tube wins the convenience factor, you know?
Just in case you read Korean, here’s a little look at the back:
Now, onto the ingredients.
For the uninformed, cica is one of the latest, hottest ingredients for troubled/congested/problematic/acting up skin. The technical term is Centella Asiatica, and it is a medicinal herb that is known to boost antioxidant activity of wounds, helping with healing and increasing blood circulation. It’s helpful with skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, stretch marks — and for irritated, dry or acne-prone skin, too. Yup!
There is a soft herbal scent to this product, which works just fine with me. It reminds me a bit of Jurlique, whose products I used to use when I was younger. The consistency is creamy but light, as seen here:
But the thing I really love about it is what it did to my skin. As I mentioned, I was experiencing very irritated, distressed (!) skin, and nothing seemed to be calming it down properly.
One thing I love about the Rovectin Cica balm is its consistency. Yes, in results, but the formulation of the product is lovely. It’s very smooth, light and easy to blend.
I have found other “aggravated skin saviours” of the past — I’m thinking of Avene’s Cicalfate Balm here, which I have loved & cherished — to be heavier than I’d like, and whilst they work, they did leave a greasier finish to my skin. Not this one! It’s a light, dreamy texture that just feels like a light lotion.
For the full ingredients list, take a look here. As well as centella extract, it also contains calamine to ease irritated skin. I used to use that on mosquito bites as a child, so I can vouch for its effectiveness! It definitely has a gentle, soothing feeling, and felt lovely and light at the same time.
I do need to try it in unison with the Cica Toner I was also sent, as well as Cica sheet masks — which I might actually try tonight, in fact. But the truth is, this product, whilst seemingly humble, packs a mighty punch. It’s become my go-to heal-everything balm, and I don’t know what I’m going to do when it runs out… except repurchase, repurchase, repurchase!
Thanks again to Wishtrend for introducing me to this simple little godsend. I’m already almost out of this lil’ beauty, and am so pleased to have found something that’s genuinely helped me during this time.
Of course, I have always had sensitive skin, and it’s a blessing and a curse (a blessing only when I look after it properly!), but it’s a lot easier when you have trustworthy products in your corner.
If you’re interested in picking up this wonder lotion, or anything else from Wishtrend, use my code STEPHANIE 15 for 15% off. And they have kindly extended my code until the end of October, so you got some time. They have a great range of K-beauty, so it’s worth taking a good look!
Well, that’s it for today, so until next time,
