Whenever a new Korean beauty brand comes into view, it gives me quite a thrill. Call it nostalgia for my years in Korea (especially now in quarantine/iso… the reminiscing is happening hard) or just call it plain curiosity, but it always piques my interest.
Now, given the fact that I am known to be a bit of a hoarder, I’ve recently been trying to just use (and finish?!) what I have… except when the lovely crew at Wishtrend contacted me to try some products by a new K-beauty brand called Rovectin, who was I to resist?
Introducing… Rovectin (drool):
I was super excited to receive these, again as they are new & clean-looking… but also vegan?! Back when I was in Korea, I remember trying in vain to find a brand that didn’t test on animals, and would never have considered a full-on vegan brand. But it appears that dreams do come true, as these babies are 100% vegan. LOVE.
The first product I tried (and the one I’ve used the most) is the Rovectin Skin Essentials Aqua Soothing UV Protector SPF50+ PA++++. You know my fair, fair skin loves a good SPF (even if I don’t always want to bother), and this one did intrigue me.
I’ve learnt that I am definitely a physical sunscreen gal, as opposed to chemical, mainly because chemical sunscreens irritate my eyes, and occasionally my skin too. And I was pleased to find out this one was indeed a physical SPF, containing both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Winner!
However, you probably know that physical sunscreens, containing usually either titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, generally leave a white caste upon application… and this one, being a physical sunscreen, does have a bit of that.
However, I will say that this is standard, and upon massaging it into the skin, it doesn’t look that different to my normal skin. Plus, the anti-ageing benefits of sunscreen in general just outweigh the bad for me!
One thing I do love about this product is the scent. YUM. It’s a very clean scent, and it reminds me of something that I can’t remember now… kind of like a fresh bar of soap? Just a really nice, clean fragrance, but not too heavy. I do find this one more intense than the Klairs Blue UV Midday Shield (which I love), and I feel that you could really layer this one on thick for heavy protection.
Right now, obviously my face mask is covering most of my face, plus we’re mostly stuck at home, so I only apply a light layer. But it’s a good, convenient handbag-sized SPF which really does the job well.
Next up is the Rovectin Clean LHA Blemish Ampoule. This came with the CUTEST little stickers, which obviously I forgot to photograph, but when I do I’ll update this post to share the cuteness. This little bottle is a beauty, and definitely good for when I’ve been having my “troubled skin” days (a fair bit in recent times).
This baby contains LHA (aka Caproloyl Salicylic Acid), which we know is great for clogged pores. While I don’t apply this everywhere, or all the time, when I’m having trouble I do lean on it. And it does seem to help my poor pores!
As you can see above, it is a viscous ampoule that quickly thins out upon application and absorbs into the skin really nicely. You can get an idea of this below, although I applied too much for the area so it looks a bit thicker than it is!
I would also say that this is a much gentler version of blackhead/acne targeted products than I used to experience. Back in the day, it was kind of like, throw a bunch of salicylic acid (or toothpaste?!) on your face and hope for the best! But now we have nuanced, vegan, and gentle products, containing the likes of neroli flower water extract to soothe and calm the skin. We love to see it.
The next two products are the two I’ve used less of, but still have some thoughts on! In more of a “first impressions” way, but still, that’s a way, right?
Let’s start with the Rovectin Skin Essentials Activating Treatment Lotion. I was happily rolling along, using up my Aromatica Lively SuperBarrier Hyaluronic Acid Toner without a care in the world (again, trying to use up my stash)… when this baby rolls into town. What was I to do?!
I’ve swapped this product into my routine a number of times, and really loved it. It looks like it’s untouched, but I actually just don’t use much as it’s so thin. I have zero complaints about this one! I’m also a sucker for moisturising products so I was always going to cave.
I will say that it’s more of an “toner essence” in my opinion, rather than a lotion, as it’s got that watery toner feel that’s slightly thicker than standard. More like the Maycoop Raw Sauce (but a little thinner), or the Son & Park Beauty Water (but a little thicker). Know what I mean? This is just an issue of semantics really, but I’m just tryin’ to be clear here!
It leaves a slightly tacky feeling after, which lets you know it’s really working! I would say that it has a slightly chemical-y scent, different to the sunscreen (yum) but it’s nothing crazy and it fades away. As for ingredients, I was happily surprised to see niacinamide, hyalurionic acid… and caffeine! Yay.
Update: checking the website right now and it is described as a toner and an essence… perfect!
Again, I haven’t probably used this enough to give my final thoughts, but I do find my skin feels fresh after using it, and I think it does look a bit brighter. For me, the bigger question is whether it is irritating for my sensitive skin, and it’s not. Which is a huge win! So I’m excited to work this into my routine more in the future.
And last of all.. is the Rovectin Skin Essentials Conditioning Cleanser. I didn’t tell y’all, but a little while ago I got super excited at finding a Cremorlab foam cleanser at my local Priceline. Thrilled I tell you! Paying full price, I happily trotted off home to try it.
Now, I am not usually one for foam cleansers, but I thought I’d give it a whirl as a second step after makeup removal. It didn’t go well, let me tell you. Dry, irritated, and just totally upset skin. And it put me off foaming cleansers for the forseeable future.
So, when this little baby arrived at my doorstep, I was a bit hesitant. And understandably so! I do find foaming cleansers can often steer from “cleaning” to “stripping real quick.
To be completely honest, I’ve used this only a small number of times, and I was always a bit scared to really go in with it! I got a bit scarred last time, and my skin is very sensitive, so I did find this a little much for me.
But then again, I barely wear makeup (especially right now), and if this had come to me about 10 years ago, in my oily days, I probably would’ve adored it from the jump. But things change, you know?!
I’m willing to give this another go, but it will probably never be my favourite go-to item. And that’s okay! As for its ingredients, you’re looking at hyaluronic acid, grape seed extract (among others), but also citric acid, which generally doesn’t work for moi.
But again, this isn’t quite targeted for me, so if you are looking for something deep cleaning and to help thoroughly remove dirt and makeup, this could be a go for you!
If these products tickle your fancy, you’ll probably love to hear that you can get them in a set for 40% off!
