UV cream is always a touchy subject. First of all, do you go with physical or chemical sunscreens? Chemical sunscreens (also known as organic sunscreens) are typically the “better looking” of the bunch — in that you don’t see them at all.
The physical sunscreens, on the other hand, can often leave that trademark white caste, courtesy of the titanium or zinc oxide contained within. But what if there was a perfect blend in one sunscreen? The seamlessness of a chemical sunscreen, but the non-irritative protection of a physical one?
Enter Klairs Mid day Blue UV Shield, stage right.
The lovely crew at Wishtrend kindly gifted this product to me a while back, and I was thrilled to discover a new sunscreen (I always am, even at the pharmacy… it’s a thing). As you know, your gal always stays sun protected, and this means UV cream day & night (not literally, but you know).
The first thing that struck me about this product? It’s blue! And it’s the perfect cornflower blue that I love. A favourite mug of mine is this shade of blue, and I just find it so pretty. I’m very into colours! So this was a good omen.
The next thing that struck me, after removing the bottle from the packaging, was how high quality the product felt. Honestly, the paper packaging is a high quality matte card, and the tube itself is quite weighty for a tubed product. It’s high quality plastic, and the silver lid really does feel high end. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed. And this is before even trying the product!
Now for the best part… the cream itself is also blue! (Yes, the name may have given this away, but still… it’s the small things in life, right?) This does fade as you rub the product in, but it’s a lot of fun regardless.
As this is a physical sunscreen — my preferred type, as they don’t irritate my eyes — it can leave a slight caste when applied thickly. However, I would use this daily, often without makeup on top (my trick to make sure SPF actually works), and it seemed to give a nice blurring effect to my skin.
So, if you were going to use it for heavy sun, then there would be more of a zinc-y effect, but for everyday use (which I would recommend this for), it’s kind of perfect.
The smell is also delicious — again, very high-end vibes here. For the price ($23), I really do think this is an impressive product. I tend to buy pricier sunscreens, such as the La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Fluid, as I just find they work better, and sun protection isn’t really something you want to skimp on in your skincare routine. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found leaning into my moonchild ways (and avidly avoiding the sun like the plague) has been highly beneficial in terms of (anti-) ageing… and I don’t hate it.
Here’s a little look at the cream lightly rubbed in — I applied it quite thickly here to give you an accurate idea, but further down below I’ll show you how it looks fully absorbed:
Looking at the ingredients list, this baby has both titanium oxide and zinc oxide right up the top, which makes a girl happy. Honestly, applying this SPF lotion feels like applying a high end cream.
According to the Wishtrend website, this baby also helps to soothe acne prone or agitated skin… and as I have the world’s most sensitive skin, I would attest to this. And looking at it now, it is also touted as having a “tone up effect” — the aforementioned “blurring” I wrote about so enthusiastically — with a semi-matte finish… hey presto:
This little doozy of a suncream really surprised me… and I would totally buy this with my own dinero. It makes me feel expensive! And usually, if you’re an SPF wearer like myself, you’ll know that these creams have a tendency to make you feel (and look) ghoulish, ghostly and godforsaken.
So when I find a good thing, I hold onto it! And the Klairs Mid Day Blue UV Shield is the one.
If you’re interested in picking this up for yourself, you can do so on the Wishtrend website (ships worldwide).
ALSO: I randomly just decided to film an impromptu video about this baby, you can find it right here:
Have you tried this product? Or any others from Klairs? I have a few more reviews to catch up on, so stay tuned for them!
