The Cure For Constantly Dry Lips In A Jar

Hey friends,

If you’ll know me, you’ll know that I love lip balm. Love it. The fact that I always seem to have dry lips… well, that’s just because I always misplace my lip balms (and also don’t drink enough water). But in theory, I love lip balm, and in physical terms, I love the way it makes my lips so juicy and plump and just divine! Is there any greater pleasure in this life, truly?

Now, my preferred lip balm of choice has always been Lucas’ Papaw Ointment. Without fail. I first bought this godsend in year 5, when I had a really bad cold and nothing would help the dry skin under my nose. Well, thank goodness for the lady at my local chemist who recommended this, because I haven’t been apart from it since.

Seriously, throughout my teen years, I could not go without the tub on my bedside table. I just wouldn’t do it. These days, they’ve upgraded to the squeezy tubes, and I have approximately 4 of them lying around in various places (no joke). However, my loyalty to Lucas’ Papaw Ointment does not prevent me from branching out and trying other lip balms occasionally… and on this occasion, I’ve found a ripper.

So what am I talking about this time? Well, it’s the Nuxe Reve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm, of course!

Now, I’ve heard rave reviews about this all over the web (do people still call it the ‘web’ these days?), and I was so curious to try it. It seemed like every beauty blogger/vlogger worth their salt had something to say about this pretty little product, and I felt the urge to buy it rising with every video watched. This lip balm truly seems to have cult status — and for good reason.

So firstly, the name. For those of you uninitiated French-speakers (myself included, despite 6 years studying the language at school… sacre bleu!), reve de miel translates to “dreams of honey”, and this completely makes sense. This thing smells like a honey pot — in the best possible way. It’s not sickly sweet, and it’s not like you’re literally sniffing honey; it’s more like they’ve distilled the essence of honey into a thick, luscious treat for your lips, and placed it in a beautiful, expensive-feeling glass jar. Something like that.

Of course, it smells like honey because it actually has honey in it — and precious oils. According to the Nuxe website, at least 79.5% of the ingredients are natural. You can really tell that it’s got those oils in there, because it is super moisturising.

The texture of the Reve de Miel lip balm is quite unique — I’ve never had a lip balm quite as thick, nor as nourishing. This is the perfect product for those with consistently dry lips (me!), or those living in harsh, cold, unforgiving climates. It’s like it provides a layer of protection on your lips, but it’s also not just sitting there; it really moisturizes them from within.

Seriously!

Have a look at the thick texture here:

Can you see how thick this stuff is? Amazing!

I tried my best to capture the intensity of this product… but sort of ended up getting distracted by my dirty outdoor table… yeahhh. Apologies for that — the constant rain in Malaysia is what I’m going to blame this time. But truly… this product is beautiful. The thing I find really interesting about it is that it feels almost gritty; it lightly exfoliates your lips as you apply it. And if you’ve got dry lips like mine, you’ll appreciate this little hack in your beauty routine!

Of course, this product doesn’t come cheap, and it is exorbitantly priced if you see it as just a lip balm. If, however, you see it as something that will change your life — and fixing permanently dry lips does change your life — then it’s worth the indulgence. It really does feel like a luxury item.

And now, time for the self-indulgent selfie, showing you how plump and soft this product makes my lips:

Me being all pouty

Look at that pout! I took this pic after being at work all day, and kept pulling weird smiles, so I figured a “serious” picture would be better — and hopefully show the lip balm at work. You can see that there is the slightest waxiness to it, and it lightens my lip colour a tad, simply because it is so thick. But I like how plump it makes ’em look!

Now that I live in Malaysia, my lips aren’t as bad as they were at their worst (which was incredibly sore and dry), but I still do need lip balm throughout the day. I love putting this on before bed to really let it work its magic — if you’ve suffered with dry lips before, then I highly recommend this lip balm!

Have you tried Nuxe’s Reve de Miel before? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Hey Steph! I have never tried this lip balm, but I will now! [laughing] I LOVE lip balms as well. You should see my “fruity” lip balm/gloss collection! Lol! I have so many. Every since Middle School, I have to wear a lip balm to bed. My lips get dry, but not severly—-just enough to where I feel like screaming without it.

I have faithfully used Blistex Lip Medex (in that little blue tub) for DECADES. I love the menthol cooling effect of it. I still use it from time to time. I always keep a tub of it around, and the second I run out of it, I head right back to CVS and get another. Lol! Right now, I have two squeeze tube lip balms that I use regularly every night—I got them off of eBay. The brand is Lovely Me:Ex, and the two lip balms are “I’m Shea Butter” and “I’m Mango Butter”. The “I’m Shea Butter” has a lovely smell of a touch of Vanilla. I really expected “I’m Mango Butter” to have a sweet Mango scent, but it’s fragrance free. The texture of this stuff is like the name—it literally feels like butter on your lips (I’m actually putting some on now–“I’m Mango Butter”—as I’m writing this. Just got up. Lips need some butta! Lol!) Pretty good stuff. It has great reviews online as well. 🙂

Another lip balm (kind of a gloss too, but still great) that I have and love is by Skin Food. It’s their Honeypot Lip Balm. It comes in three kinds: Honey Pot, Honey Pot Mandarin, and Honey Pot Berry. I have the Honey Pot Berry and Honey Pot Mandarin ones. Did I mention that the packaging is absolutely adorable? The packaging is shaped like a honey pot with actual wooden little spatula on the side! Ah! So cute! The moisture that your lips get is great as well. The feeling is also a little buttery, with medium shine. These balms are good for wearing during the day. I’ve worn these to bed as well, but that’s just me. :-))

Well, Steph, I have talked your head off enough. LOL! I’m gonna go and make myself some breakfast lunch. Yeah. Breakfast lunch because it’s past noon here and I’m just getting up. Lol! I’m a Night Owl and a late sleeper.

    Great blog and review!

    Take care, buddy! 🙂

    1. Oh my gosh, I have so many lip balms too. I don’t know why I keep buying them?! But I do! It’s like some weird kind of addiction, or safety blanket haha.

The vanilla and mango butter ones sound good! Anything with butter is good though, isn’t it? And I haven’t tried any Skinfood balms but I’m sure they’re super cute.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts — always love to hear from you 🙂 P.S. Hope you enjoyed your breakfast lunch! <3

  2. Just discovered your blog through Fifty Shades of Snail, and I think I’m hooked! I have an unopened jar of this lip balm, which I’m saving up because I don’t want it to ever run out. Does that make sense?? But now, I’m so tempted to use it even though I’m still going through a tin of Rosebud Salve. I am in love with anything honey right now, and I can imagine this one is going to be an absolute dream. 😉

    1. Oh, you’re very sweet! I’m happy to have you here 🙂

Saving up products to use for unidentified “rainy days” absolutely makes sense to me… not sure if that’s a good or bad thing though, haha!

I’m a recovered hoarder, but these days I just crack into products as and when I feel like it… because nothing is worth the pain of an unopened but still expired beauty product. Am I right?! Bottom line: go for it! 🙂
