Hi everyone!
I know it’s been a while but Sample Sundays is finally back! Yes, I can hear you breathing your collective sighs of relief and trust me, I’m as excited as you are! To be honest, a big part of the reason I started this series was to make sure I actually use some of my ridiculously large stash of samples, instead of just hoarding them away like some crazy cat lady. I have piles and bags and stacks of the things and at this point I have realised it is a little bit out of control. Hence my spending ban and cutting down on all purchases. I’m feeling good about it all – let’s see how long I can keep it up for!
Anyway, in my previous Sample Sundays post I said that I was going to review the Tony Moly AC Control Acne Foam, but that hasn’t happened yet. Instead, I am bringing you a sample that I used while on holiday in Krabi and I really enjoyed it, and it is Skinfood’s Platinum Grape Cell Cream! This has jumped to the front of the queue, and rightly so! Perhaps I will review the Tony Moly one soon (when I find it cough), but I hope y’all enjoy this one today instead.
Here it is (from our balcony, sigh):
I have mentioned before how I like to think of Skinfood as a slightly “higher end high street brand” if that makes sense (possibly not). Basically, Skinfood is priced at a higher price point than other comparable brands and they never, ever have sales. I have found some specials and different events (specifically at Lotte Department), but in terms of the epic sales that you will see at Nature Republic, Tony Moly, Etude House and The Face Shop? It ain’t gon’ happen!
So, as a result of this thinking (that I am now trying to stamp out), I have held onto a lot of my Skinfood samples as if they held the key to the universe, when in actuality they just hold some goop that will apparently stave off ageing for one more day. Yay!
As you can probably guess, I was really excited to use this sample, and I actually finished a whole bunch of other samples on my trip too (my ingenious packing idea was to bring a big zip lock bag of samples instead of decanting full-sized products into miniature bottles that never get un-decanted). In fact, I think I am going to write a post about how to pack light for short trips, as it really worked for me and made my journey a lot more streamlined!
On first opening this sachet, I was pleased by the smell which is in actual fact slightly grape-scented, but also sort of floral, too. In Korea, they love grape flavoured anything, and the grapes they have here actually smell like grape candy. No joke, that artificial “grape smell” really does come from a real grape! Also, the consistency of this cream felt really nourishing and creamy between my fingers. It was a great first impression, and considering I have been hanging onto this sample for a while now (I have a few but haven’t used any), I was particularly pleased!
When I applied it to my face, straightaway it felt moisturising, calming and not too heavy. In Krabi, try as I might with the SPF, I still managed to obtain a bit of sunburn (or “catch the sun” as my mum would say). However, after using a few Korean products in my hang luggage arsenal, the (mild) burn disappeared very quickly. This cream felt really luxurious, but not too heavy. I really enjoyed it and it makes me really curious to try the rest of the Platinum Grape Cell line! I think this is one of Skinfood’s premium lines, and I certainly do have a lot of stuff to get through first, but it is now on my radar, fo’ sho’.
That’s it for today! Next week’s Sample Sundays will feature… Missha’s Super Aqua Oxygen Micro Visible Deep Cleanser! Apart from incredibly enormous product names, Missha have quite impressed me with some of their products, and the last time I went there they gave me quite a few samples (which I haven’t yet used, surprise surprise). This is one I am yet to use, so I will let y’all now how it goes!
Until next time,
Steph x
