My Very Favourite Eyeshadow Palette

Hey y’all,

Today I’m talking about something a tad bittersweet — the Stila In The Light Eyeshadow Palette. Why would this glorious thing of beauty be bittersweet, I hear you ask? Well, as much as I love and adore it (and am going to tell you why in a second), it’s also sadly no longer available. However, I figured that enough of you probably already have it in your stash and wanted to provide my thoughts anyway. Plus, it’s just so pretty to look at!

I picked this baby up back in Korea, when I happened to go to Garosu-Gil and experienced LOHB for the first time. LOHB is a beauty store which houses a number of brands, like an Olive Young — but I’d just never seen one in my area and was super excited. I’d heard about Stila eyeshadows and seen some hype online, so one week I bought the Dare to Bare Eyeshadow Palette and the next week I bought this one. You could say I was not in any way restrained.

So because of my indulgent behaviour, I decided to use one at a time… until I realised that would take me a million years and you only have one life. YOLO! So I (fairly recently) cracked open this baby and now have two Stila compacts on the go, plus many other cosmetics of various kinds. That’s the life, and I’m just livin’ it (or something like that).

Now, let me introduce you to this lovely palette:

There are 10 colours in this palette; 6 shimmers and 4 mattes. I think that’s a good balance, as I love a bit of shimmer in me life (who doesn’t?!) but also gives the palette a playful, young feel. There’s a good mix of warm, neutral shades here too — it really is a neutral eyeshadow-lover’s paradise.

Let me show you exactly what I’m talking about:

Isn’t that just one of the prettiest darn things you’ve ever seen?

Now, I’ll be honest and tell you that a huge part of why I bought this palette was because it featured the eyeshadow, Kitten. For those of you who don’t know, Kitten is pretty much Stila’s signature eyeshadow, and rightly so. It is a beautiful champagne shimmer that gives so much light to the eyes and just seems to lift my face. I honestly think that this colour would suit every shade of eyes and skin — it’s a universal flattering shade.

I watched my four most-used shades so you could see: Sandstone, Bubbly, Bliss and Kitten (duh):

Purrdy, ey? Something that really struck me about these shadows, particularly the first time I used them, was their texture. They’re just so buttery! I never knew eyeshadow could take on the consistency of butter, but hey, you learn something new everyday. They really are a pleasure to apply, and are quite pigmented so you don’t need to try too much for things to look done — always a good thing in my low-maintenance opinion!

In a normal day, I usually put Bare in the crease and feature Kitten on my eyelids. I also put a bit of white shimmer in the inner corners of my eye (still using the Lioele Stick Shadow from W2Beauty, and still lovin’ it). That’s about it, because I’m a bit lazy and don’t like to faff in the morning… but you really could do a myriad of looks with this palette. The choices are endless!

I decided to take a lil’ snappy of myself after work, to display the shimmering beauty of Kitten (and a bit of Bare) in action:

Me wearing Kitten (and a bit of Bare)

The lightness of Kitten gives such a luminescent quality to the complexion, and I find that it gives me that “sparkly eyes” look. I know this is a very Korean style of doing makeup (I also do a bit of aegyo sal, just for good balance), but I’ve also loved using light shadows on my eyes for a while, as they open up that area and bring the focus there. Plus, shimmer is fun.

I don’t know if I could rave about this palette any more… I’m just sad that it’s no longer available. I haven’t even mentioned the Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Damsel that it comes with (nor have I used it yet), but the fact that I have another high-quality eyeliner in my arsenal can only be a good thing.

Since owning these two palettes, I’ve started lusting after other Stila products, but have yet to take the plunge. Have you tried something from Stila and loved it? Go on, enable me!

  1. Very beautiful palette! So shimmery and neutral. Great for that natural look. 🙂 I don’t have any Stila items. I do own a small handful of neutral single eyeshadows. Lately, I’m all about the bright colors. I’m in a bright color stage. Lol! Going from left to right, I’m REALLY loving the second one on the top row. So pretty! :-))

    1. Yes it’s so pretty isn’t it? I love it. You’re brave to do bright colours! I haven’t quite gotten there yet lol – just neutrals for me! The one you’re talking about is called Sunset… Perhaps I should wear it today in your honour 😉
