KL Cuisine #2: Yeast Bistronomy, Bangsar

Yesterday Gav and I had a luxurious Sunday, despite him being sick and me also seeming to have caught his cold. Wild times! We remedied our situation by treating ourselves to brunch, and thought we would check out Yeast Bistronomy in Bangsar Village. A friend had recommended this to us and we were curious to see what all the fuss was about, so we got in an Uber and off we went! 

It was a bright day (aren’t they all in KL?) and although it was cloudy, it was still steaming hot. The strip of restaurants and cafes along Jalan Telawi 2 have a nice awning so you can walk in the shade. It was a welcome respite from the sun, plus it just looks super pretty. The tables at Yeast matched its yellow and brown theme and looked sunny as well, a little something like this:

The cafe was booming at this point (I think it’s pretty well-known that 1:30pm on a Sunday is a bad time to go anywhere that serves food… and yet, what rebels we are) so we elected to sit outside. There was room inside, but it was pretty packed, noisy and also we’re a little bit sick of air con drying out our moist, supple skin. However, as it was a very warm, still day, this resulted in me getting very hot and us having to leave pretty much straight after we finished our meal. You live, you learn!

So what did we eat?

Gav ordered the Oeufs Provencal (baked eggs with ratatouille), which looked like this:

I really liked the ratatouille (I’m a bit of a vegetable fiend these days – malnourishment and poor nutritional choices will do that to you), and the eggs were nicely baked. The portions were small (French), so if you’re in need of a big feed, this place probably won’t do it for you – at least not in one dish. However, for a light meal, this was a light and healthy choice.

I elected to have the Oeufs Mollets Florentine: two poached eggs with spinach, mushrooms and gruyere cheese sauce, shown here:

The picture of my dish doesn’t look very appetising and I wasn’t going to include it, but I thought perhaps I should. To be honest, I was slightly disappointed with the presentation, as this is a pretty fance place and the sauce was a bit splattered around the plate. However, they were very busy and it’s not the biggest deal in the world.

The cheese sauce was really nice, albeit much cheesier than I was expecting, and the mushrooms and spinach were divine. Afterwards, however, I didn’t feel the best, and I think that my lack of milk-drinking needs to be extended to cheese-eating. By this I mean, I think my lactose intolerance is spreading, and so a big cheese dish probably isn’t/wasn’t the wisest order on my part. For a cheese-lover, however, this would probably go down a treat.

The inside of the cafe looked cute, and I did duck in quickly to check out their cakes (two thumbs up from me). Amidst the crowds, I managed to get a picture of their bakery/boulangerie, which was super cute and très French.

I noticed a yummy-looking mango tart, as well as the raspberry tart (can you tell I’m a bit of a tart fiend?). I would definitely give these a go on another visit – they looked so perfect.

All in all, Yeast Bistronomy is a really pretty French bistro/cafe which has a decent menu and gorgeous-looking cakes. We went on a particularly busy day and it was still nice; just perhaps not 100% satisfying. I would put this down to the small portions and my ordering choices, and there are some delicious-sounding items on the menu. I would try going here again, but next time I will be trying the cakes or the french toast!
