Luminising BB/CC Creams: Missha vs. Hanskin

Hi friends!

By now you are probably well-versed in BB creams, and potentially their model-upgrade, CC creams. There are actually DD creams available too but let’s all forget about that, shall we? The wonderful thing about CC creams (and BB creams, for that matter) is that they are a lightweight way to smooth over your complexion and even out any redness, without feeling like you are wearing a shield of makeup. That’s not something enjoy, so I am rather fond of these ol’ (new) things!

Recently, with the cooler weather approaching, I have been trying to maintain a “natural glow” in a very unnatural way – by relying on BB/CC creams to do my dirty work. Genius, no? I have discovered a couple of beauties that are very Korean, in that they give a luminous finish to the skin. Almost as if you have just bathed in diamonds… or something. What’s more, these two CC creams go on white and then adjust to your skin colour. Amazing and so much fun!

So, today I thought I’d bring you two such products and discuss the differences between them. Sort of like a battle of the luminisers, except they are both inanimate and so I’m not really sure how one is supposed to “win”. But that’s by the by! The products of the day are Missha’s Complexion Coordinating BB Cream (White) and Hanskin’s Bio Origin Radiance CC Cream.

First up, let’s talk about Hanskin’s version. I had been really curious about trying Hanskin products for a while, and had eyed this up in Olive Young numerous time. Finally, Olive Young had a sale and this lil’ thing was discounted. Just the impetus I needed! I picked it up and whisked it home… only to tuck it away in a dark corner of my cupboards for months. Fail. Recently I’ve been using it on the regular though, and I have a few thoughts to share with y’all.

This may sound a bit strange, but I quite enjoy the packaging of this product. It has one of those “press down in the middle and watch the product squeeze out” applicators, which I always appreciate. It’s just so fun! Also, I love how it applies white and then adjusts to your skin colour as you rub it in and warm it up. I do feel like this provides a more natural finish – even if it’s just all in my head. I’m never quite sure how these cosmetic companies get a product to change to different colours depending on each individual’s skin, and I don’t think it would vary too much between person to person, but still – it’s fun!

I also like how this is a light cream and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin in any way, shape or form. Big tick from me. One thing I will say about this is that I’m not a huge fan of the scent – it’s not that pleasant and doesn’t really do much for me. However, it doesn’t linger and it’s not the worst thing in the world. Also, this cream can perhaps err slightly on the too shiny side of things… I know it is a luminising CC cream but still, a girl’s gotta have limits! Sometimes I feel a little bit too reflective, although that’s tempered down in the cooler weather to be honest. A little bit of powder and it ain’t a problem.

Now, onto Missha’s offering: the Complexion Coordinating BB Cream. First off, this product looks absolutely beautiful and is the stuff dreams are made of. Jus tlook at that detail! This is from Missha’s “Signature” line, which is their higher end line. And I like it! I wore this in my Monday Vlog #1 (there’s only a very brief clip of my face in there, but yeah, it happened) and it felt really breezy and light on my skin. I also feel like it may have adjusted better to my skintone, and it felt more moisturising too somehow. Recently I have been getting a few dry patches around my chin and I felt like the Hanskin one exacerbated that slightly, whereas this Missha one left my skin feeling even and smooth. Of course, this could be due to a number of other factors (weather, sleep, nutrition etc) but it did happen straightaway. Coincidence? I think… maybe not.

In terms of colour, I do find that the Missha BB Cream provides a more natural colour than the Hanskin Bio Origin Radiance CC Cream. Missha’s is slightly more cream-coloured, whereas the Hanskin one definitely errs on the side of white. Like, really white. And that’s a lot coming from me!

The packaging for the Missha BB Cream also initially confused me, as I thought I had to pump it down like you do with the Hanskin one. However, it has a twist top instead, which I actually prefer and which results in an easier, hassle-free application. Both of them have a hole up the top where the product comes out, so they are both equally hygienic. They both also contain SPF, which is always a good thing in my light-skinned books.

Then there is the issue of size: the Missha offering is noticeably larger than Hanskin’s cream. However, a lot of that comes down to packaging, as the actual difference is only 50ml vs 30ml. I know this is almost twice as big but trust me, the Missha packaging is huge. The whole look of the Missha cream is that of a luxury product, whereas Hanskin’s is more pared back. The Hanskin one would be better for travelling, but Missha’s looks nicer as a gift.

All in all, I think I prefer the Missha cream, mainly because the colour it gives is much more natural. I also prefer the twist-top – and a pretty package doesn’t hurt, either! Both of these creams certainly help to perk up my skin in the cooler autumnal months. However, if I were to purchase just one luminising, diamond-injected (not really) of these BB/CC creams, I would stick to Missha’s.

What are your thoughts on luminising BB and CC creams? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time,

Steph x

  1. It would be so much better if you showed the products on your face! Why don’t you? You do such detailed reviews so helpful but then don’t show us the most important 🙁

    1. Hehe good point! I usually take my photos at the last minute and am often unprepared and really tired-looking. Not the best! But I agree, it makes a huge difference to see the product on someone’s face. I am going to do this from now on 🙂 Thanks for commenting!
