So I Went to Kyoto…

Hi friends!

I know I have been AWOL again and honestly, I am still finding it difficult to balance fulltime work with pretty much anything else. It has sort of taken over my life, well not really, but it certainly sucks up a lot of my energy and doesn’t leave too much room for anything else. So, apologies for the lack of posts on here in recent times. However, I am going to try doing all my blog work on my weekends (it relaxes me and is fun for me, so that’s not a problem) because during the week isn’t really feasible. Let’s see how this goes!

Part of the reason I’ve been away is because recently I had my mum over to visit! It was quite a whirlwind trip, in the best way possible, and I still can’t quite believe it happened. She always said she was going to come to visit me in Korea, and when it actually happened it was pretty unbelievable. We managed to hook up our arrivals in Kyoto, then come back to Korea and then she went on to Perth before heading home to Melbourne. World traveller!

While I am partial to Korea (and I found myself missing it over the 5-day holiday… weird), I do love Japan and Kyoto is especially beautiful. I am not 100% sure I could live there, but to visit it is a special experience. My personal favourite was the Golden Palace, which was just unbelievably beautiful. There are some things which defy words, and that was one of them. It looked like a postcard, except it was real.

Without further ado, here are a number of photos from our trip… enjoy!

When we got back to Korea, we had a few days in Guri and then mum whisked us off to the Westin Chosun in Myeongdong, Seoul. For anyone who doesn’t know (including myself until a week ago), this is most likely the most badass hotel in all of Korea. Just incredible. It was so relaxing and chilled, especially after the whirlwind week that was, so I think we all appreciated the R&R. We also got to go sightseeing around Gyeongbokgung Palace

All in all it was a really special trip, and one which I will never forget. I know I haven’t really written much today, but I wanted to get the photos up first. I might talk about it in depth later on (if you guys want me to!) but just rest assured that it was totally, 100% awesome.

Until next time,

Steph x

  1. Your pictures don’t do justice to the beauty of Kyoto, but you and your mom look fabulous!
Ive been planning to go to Korea, but honestly I have no idea what to do there. So I always end up flying cheap to Japan. Maybe you can help me with that…

In fact Im going BACK to Kyoto the first week of November! I was there last year too, same time. Fall in Kyoto has got to be the best EVER.
I love everything and I try to go to Japan a few times a year. Ive even got a little system down where breakfast is either provided in that typical Japanese fashion, or just coffee and the Japanese “toast”, which is really good. Then I spend the day drinking water and the Pocaris and stopping into any cafes I spot. Then as soon as early dinner rolls around I switch from coffee to sake and drink, drink, eat, eat, drink drink. Anythign will do. Yakiniku, Yakitori, sashimi, ANYTHING.
    GOD I love Japan.

But really, I have got to try Korea.

    1. Hi, thanks for your comment! I agree these photos aren’t the best, and that’s because my camera got stolen and I had to rely on my Samsung phone camera (which I have dropped far too many times, lol). My camera situation has since changed, but this was all I had to go on at the time! Thanks for the compliment about me and mum though, I’ll let her know hehe ^-^

Re: things to do in Korea, they are many and varied. If you like art and traditional areas, you must go to the beautiful Insa-dong and check out the galleries and Bukchon village. I love Sinsa for shopping and eating (of course), and Hongdae is a cool, young area to check out. There is so much to do here! I love Japan too but Korea is where it’s at for me. You can even get your Pocari here! ^_^
